BEN PLATT AND THE CAST OF The Politician
When Ben Platt was in 1Oth grade at Los Angeles’ Harvard-Westlake School, he dressed up as Glee’s Mr Schuester for Halloween. ‘Glee hit me at the right time. I was in [creator Ryan Murphy’s] key fan base,’ says the New York actor, now 26 (pictured second from left). ‘As a queer artist, [Murphy] creates stories that are ahead of the curve, representing people on screen I hadn’t seen properly represented before.’ After Murphy saw Platt in the lead role in Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen, for which Platt won a 2O17 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, Murphy created a role for him in Netflix’s The Politician. The series tracks Payton Hobart (Platt) and his wild campaign for class president alongside a cadre of fellow electioneers, played by the likes of Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Rahne Jones and Julia Schlaepfer (all pictured, from left).
