Trending...FASHION GETS FUN(GI)
Set to be a $5O billion market by 2O22, * the lowly mushroom is finally getting its moment in the sun. Recognising more than just their psychedelic properties, Somerset House introduces Mushrooms: The Art, Design and Future of Fungi (31 January to 26 April), celebrating the legacy and potential of this versatile organism through the work of 4O artists and designers. From Cy Twombly drawings to pioneering mycelium-based furniture and new materials set to transform the fashion industry, it shows the powerful promise mushrooms offer towards a more sustainable future. And, in fashion, mushrooms are having a moment. After showing floppy brimmed styles worn over baseball caps, cloches and newsboy styles for Resort 2O2O, Miu Miu had mushroom hats trending, while Stella McCartney’s Falabella mushroom leather bag and Loewe’s fungi motifs made an appearance on the SS2O runways. In beauty, the earthy fungus’ promise of smaller pores and supple skin has seen trailblazers Origins relaunch and upgrade its 1O-year-old Super-Charged Mushroom line in collaboration with mushroom expert Dr Andrew Weil. Welcome to the shroom boom.
