Let’s allgo to...EAST KENT

-

If you’re still taking your mini-breaks in the Farrow & Ball-ed enclaves of the Cotswolds, then it’s time to shake things up. Because the new place where the art and fashion crowd is flocking to is East Kent. The soft bump of the country east of Ashford is where it’s truly happening, with a string of boutique hotels (The Pig just landed outside Canterbury), genuine farm-to-table restaurants, fine-dining pubs and beaches to rival Montauk. For fantastic food, the Fordwich Arms should be top of your list. Named the best pub in Britain, this secret riverside local in the quintessential Kent village of Fordwich has just landed a Michelin star. Or if you’re pining for Daylesford Organic, head to Macknade in Faversham for a 1O,OOOft food-hall haven. Further east, the SHL (Second Home Londoners) are trading in Stow-on-the-Wold for the seaside charm of Deal (the place to shop for antiques), Broadstairs and the Georgian properties of Ramsgate, while the art crowd are heading to Folkestone’s Harbour Arm and Creative Quarter, where a cool new underground art scene is emerging. And if that all sounds far too sociable? Kick back in Cabü’s wooden cabins on a remote strip of land in New Romney, or stop by The Gallivant on the East Kent/Sussex border, for yoga on Camber Sands beach.
