Let’s all go to... MARSEILLE
“EXPECT 3OO DAYS OF SUNSHINE EVERY SINGLE YEAR AS WELL AS A CREATIVE SCENE TO ENVY ”
London, New York, Milan... Marseille? The fashion world is flocking south to the art-soaked, wonderfully gritty and insouciantly cool French city of Marseille. Designer Jacquemus grew up in the region and has dedicated collections and art books (Marseille Je’Taime, £6O) to the sun-drenched city. Now it’s become the place du jour with style writer Lou Stoppard and influencer Camille Charrière filling their feeds from its cobbled streets. With 3OO days of sunshine every year and a covetable creative scene, who can blame them? Check in to the newly refurbished Les Bords de Mer (rooms from £13O) – a whitewashed art deco hotel with dazzling Med views. Don’t miss Le Corbusier’s modernist building Cité Radieuse, which recently opened rooftop art gallery MAMO and a 21-room hotel. Going soon? Catch Man Ray’s exhibition at the Musée Cantini (until 8 March) and dive into a vibrant food scene, with Algerian eatery Douceur Piquante and seafood shack La Boite recommended. And don’t leave without a visit to concept store Chez Laurette, which stocks everything from designer soap to French-made leather holdalls.
