MEET THE FRENCH DUO REIMAGINING TRADITIONAL LAISSEZ- FAIRE STYLE FOR A NEW GENERATION OF WOMEN

-

WHO

New year, new futurist spin on wardrobe staples from French label Coperni. Founded in 2O13 by Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer, Coperni (formerly Corperni Femme) is back after a two-year hiatus. Put on pause after taking the creative reins at heritage house Courrèges, where the pair put covetable leather jackets on the backs of every influential stylist, their own label now gets a reboot. Drawing on the duo’s past experience (Chanel and Balenciaga) these subtly subversive classics include cleverly cut separates that offer a new interpretation of insouciant French style.

WHAT

‘It’s this idea of having a wardrobe of practical pieces you can mix effortlessly,’ they say. So Coperni offers a range of smart suit jackets and shirts, as well as zingy dresses and T-shirts to work in, wander cities in or meet for drinks in, all while maintaining the brand’s minimalist look. Seams on blazers are configured to flatter curvier bodies, and give shape to slimmer ones. Meanwhile, lacquered leather trench coats and sculptural handbags are Instagram catnip.

WEAR

Costanza Lombardi, womenswear buyer at Browns Fashion, reveals how to make Coperini work for your wardrobe: ‘I love the brand for its striking, simple silhouettes that are both classic and modern at the same time. Its hero pieces are the LBDs especially, which will take you from day to night – all you need to do is pair them with flat statement boots, or some simple-yetelegant heels.’ Noted.
