See you in...THE SPORTS HALL THE JOY OF SEX
FROM FILMS TO FASHION, YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE TO BREAK INTO A SWEAT TO GET INTO SPORTS THIS SPRING
Ever the trailblazer, director Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant) taps into this month’s cultural moment: team sports. His film Finding The Way Back (out 13 March) centres on an alcoholic construction worker (Ben Affleck) who finds hope – and himself – through coaching a high-school basketball team. Meanwhile, designer Molly Goddard presented her SS2O collection in a chlorine-scented Marylebone leisure centre, and Richard Quinn turned Bethnal Green’s York Hall leisure centre into a royal court, with chandeliers and pink carpets. When it comes to music, Sports Team will be your new favourite band. The six Cambridge graduates gained fans with wild live sets supporting Two Door Cinema Club, before climbing the charts with single The Races, Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in The World, no less. Their debut album Deep Down Happy (out in April) follows their sold-out UK tour. Feeling actively inspired? Join All Ball, London’s female basketball team, or keep up to date on their dunks with Slowe’s sports coverage on Foundation FM, where guests include grassroots basketballer Bwalya Newton, founder of the Hackney Gazelles. Time to get your game face on.
