LOOK BOOK: ROCKS OFF
WE’RE BACK TO EMBRACING THEBLING–HERE’SHOW TO SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND
Shimmering formulas, tiny crystals and pearlescent finishes: how to recreate the high-impact make-up seen on the SS20 catwalks
The NAIL FILES
At Simone Rocha, manicurist Ama Quashie placed pearls on the tips of models’ nails. To DIY, apply a nude shade (ELLE loves Nails.Inc Polish in Duvet Day, £15, right) as a base, then add Hobbycraft Adhesive Pearls, £1.50 for 440 (far right) using nail glue. Simple – and a good excuse for not doing the washing up.
The KEY
We left the look to Cher previously, but with the likes of Valentino and Euphoria championing gemstoneencrusted eyes, we feel confident to give it a whirl. Dot crystals and sequins around the eyes using eyelash glue and tweezers, or apply at the corners, as seen at Adeam, for a subtle glint. Trust us, it’s easier than getting perfect liner.
The SKIN BASICS
Most of us have combination or oily skin, so leaving behind last season’s matte finish can be daunting. Luckily, there is a way to compromise. Start with Sisley
Black Rose Eye Fluid, £108 (above right), to brighten the eyes. This provides hydration where you need it most, so you can go in with Bobbi Brown Skin Longwear Fluid Powder Foundation, £28 (above left), to keep your T-zone oil spill at bay. To get the shimmering finish, go for a silver highlighter, instead of the usual peach or gold, to add even more luminosity – try Illamasqua
Beyond Powder in Daze, £34 (above centre). The cooler tone will make your cheekbones look pleasingly sculpted.
The SCENT
If you’re bold enough to pull off the bejewelled look, you’ll need a suitably va-va-voom scent as an accompaniment. Miu Miu’s latest, Twist, £87 for 1OOml EDT (right), is a sophisticated blend of cedar wood and amber accord. And its retro-glam glass bottle will look suitably majestic on your dressing table.
The Inspiration NINA SIMONE
The musician and civil rights activist did it best when she placed diamante crystals along her winged liner and arch of her brow to create the ultimate bejewelled eye look (above). Follow her lead and pair with lashings of mascara, such as Gucci Beauty’L’Obscur Mascara,
£30 (right), to balance out the showstopping glitz.
The ENDS
The crown was deconstructed at Khaite, where models’ heads dripped with gemstones. Have a go with a scattering of crystal hair slides (ELLE loves those by Kenneth Jay Lane, £90, below left, and Simone Rocha,
£120, below right) then spritz OUAI Hair and Body Shine Mist, £25 (below), all over for an expensive-looking glaze.
