The look... SEXY SWEATER VESTS
THE CLASSIC KNIT HAS BEEN GIVEN A 2O2O UPDATE. HOW? IT’S TIME TO SHOW A LITTLE SKIN
This isn’t that sweater, the one reserved for golf courses and elderly male relatives. The sleeveless knit has been rebranded, sexed-up and made cool on the AW2O catwalks by the likes of Prada, Chloé and Dior.
It’s the time of year we ‘umm’ and ‘ah’ about weatherappropriate styles; sweating on the streets one minute, freezing in the aisles of Tesco the next. This simple piece comes under the ‘do it all’ category of transitional clothes, which means you can wear it multiple ways, whatever the temperature.
With its simplicity comes an all-year-round wearability. You can take the ‘sun’s out, guns out’ approach, sporting the sweater vest solo during summer’s peak – many of the catwalks showed the ‘Oh, I just threw this on’ approach. Then ease into the autumnal months and start layering over shirts, making a spectacle of the frilled collars we’ll be wearing next season.
‘Flashing skin is the way to wear it now,’ confirms ELLE’s accessories editor, Molly Haylor. ‘Take inspiration from
Prada, wearing it with a slashed midi-skirt – a demure length with a wink as you walk. You can also make sure your look is closer to tough than twee with heavy boots, as seen at Chloé.’
We can’t see our grandad wearing his like that… But it might just be time to raid his wardrobe.
