Driving Innovation

EME Outlook - - Welcome -

There are few more reputable names in global automotive circles than that of UK motorsport legend, Williams.

A respected and much-loved mainstay of the F1 world over the decades, the Company’s legacy as a humble, yet extremely successful, manufacturer and competitor is undoubted. And in recent years, the brand has leveraged such acclaim across its bespoke Advanced Engineering operations, which not only cater for F1 requirements but continue to apply groundbreaking engineering innovations across complementing areas of motorsport, automotive, aviation, defence, healthcare and much, much more.

It was my pleasure to meet Williams Advanced Engineering’s Managing Director, Craig Wilson for this month’s edition of EME Outlook, as he shared his own feelings on the Williams legacy, on the engineering division’s diversifying remit and portfolio, and on the key trend of efficiency that is driving recent innovations.

“The big drivers all revolve around sustainability and energy efficiency, so this includes areas of lightweighting, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and battery development; more often than not incorporated into the EV (electric vehicle) sector,” Wilson explained in an hour-long interview at the Company’s headquarters in Oxfordshire, UK. “These capabilities are all borne out of our core business and are increasingly significant if you look at any area of transportation just now. It’s the way the industry is heading and I would say it gives us quite a good edge in the market.”

Efficiency is a key theme throughout our March edition, and we get right to the heart of the subject via an extensive focus on the utilities sector.

Our January publication was headed by Flanders-based facilitator, De Watergroep, and we hung around in the sector and indeed the region this month to gain further insight from water-link; before moving south to analyse Societe Wallone des Eaux (SWDE)’S mission to ensure top-class water provision in Belgium.

Rounding up the issue, CBRE Façade Consultancy maintains an Outlook Publishing- wide emphasis on façade engineering at present; Phoebe Calver takes a stroll through the centuries in exploring Athens’ business travel acumen; and our front of book segment pays homage to Audrey-laure Bergenthal, Chief Executive Officer of Euveka, and designer of the first French smart mannequin dummy, in recognition of International Women’s Day. Enjoy the issue!
