MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS 2019 ALSO FEATURING: BUSINESS TRAVEL GUIDE WATER-LINK ESTONIAN CONVENTION BUREAU | SAMSKIP WIKOV I NDUSTRY
8 Featuring interviews with Ericsson, Nokia, Vodafone, AT&T, Cisco and more Athens: The European capital of culture Bringing progressive technologies and innovative solutions to the forefront of Flanders’ water market Exercising integrational excellence
Late February saw the world’s biggest and brightest technological enterprises descend on Barcelona.
Mobile World Congress, the first edition of which launched some 32 years ago, welcomed more than 109,000 visitors from 198 countries, including more than 7,900 CEOS.
Deputy Editor Jonathan Dyble and I were just two of the 3,640 media analysts in attendance, and we took full advantage of the mass of expertise, bringing you no fewer than nine interview-based features and several other pieces of content from leading industry figures.
From 5G and cybersecurity to IOT and startup innovation, our special edition insert is a new concept for EME Outlook, and one we very much hope to build on in the future. Be sure to read Jonathan’s introductory note for more insight into our time in Barcelona, and of course take your pick from the wealth of content that follows. MWC is not the only focus for this edition of the magazine, however. We explore a variety of other industries, including utilities in the form of an interview with Franky Cosaert, CEO of Belgium’s water-link.
Catching up after a successful 2018, Cosaert tells us about the firm’s plans for 2019 and beyond, including a new Intelligent Control Centre.
“Within this facility we’ll be implementing state-of-the-art software that has been helping to transform our operations,” he states. “We’re now able to use remote sensoring, data analytics, the internet of things and other technologies that can be interpreted, providing network diagnosis and making us better aware of what’s happening throughout our supply chain.”
In the manufacturing sector, Wikov Industry continues to operate strongly having been in business in the Czech Republic for more than 100 years. Starting out as a producer of now-vintage passenger cars, lightweight trucks, buses and agricultural machinery, the company has adapted, currently focussed on the development of gearboxes and precise mechanical components for industry use and for railway vehicles.
Our attention also turns to logistics with a feature on Samskip in Norway, an intermodal expert covering sea, road and rail.
Finally, our business travel guides cover some of Europe’s most popular destinations, from the capitals of Greece and Hungary to an up and coming tech hotspot, Estonia.
