what can you tell us about your role in Ant-man And The Wasp?
I play Ghost, the antagonist in the movie. Ghost was originally a male character in the comic books, so she has been adapted into a woman, which is amazing.
How was your audition for ghost?
I did a self tape. They give you some scenes and you send them to your agent. After that, they flew me out for a camera test to be directed by Peyton [Reed, director] for a half a day. The rest is history.
What’s been the maddest moment of your career so far?
In terms of a ‘good’ mad, I think it was working with Steven Spielberg on Ready Player One. When he got excited about a take, he would shout over, “Now that was a movie moment!” The fun part was, Steven and I would sing show tunes inbetween takes. He’s a really good singer.
Do you have any acting idols?
I grew up on black-and-white and ’80s films. What inspired me to be in movies was gazing up at the TV watching Some Like It Hot with my mum, not getting it but getting it. That whole world was my idol.
What was your first acting role?
[BBC drama] Whitechapel. I played a student called Roxy who dies. I was like a rabbit in the headlights.
Star Wars or Star Trek?
Star Wars [she played a First Order Officer in The Force Awakens]. It was a bizarre, mesmerising experience.
When have you been the most embarrassed?
I was on set of [TV show] Killjoys. I was lying down in my trailer, getting in the zone. I got up, went to set and rehearsed in front of the crew. As we were walking back, my co-star said, “What’s that in your hair?” And my only extravagant bra had hooked onto my hair. People thought it was a statement, but I just fell asleep on my bra.
What would your superpower be?
Time travel. I’d go to the ’30s, to Woodstock in the ’60s and a high school prom in the ’80s. You could transport anywhere, hide out and experience everything.
Who would win in a fight: a horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
I’m going to say 100 duck-sized horses because there is a hundred of them. They could swarm. They could distract as well.
