GOTTI’S UNORTHODOX MARKETING CAMPAIGN

Empire (UK) - - PREVIEW -

Gotti, a new biopic of New York City mobster John Gotti with John Travolta in the starring role, has earned a rare zero per cent on Rotten Tomatoes. “He may have been a murderer, but even Gotti deserved better than this,” read one review. Undeterred by the critical mauling, the marketing team behind Gotti took on an unusual tactic: firing back. “Audiences loved Gotti,” claimed one trailer. “Who would you trust more? Yourself or a troll behind a keyboard?” It remains unclear which audiences loved Gotti, though. The only evidence seems to be the Rotten Tomatoes audience score, which boasts over 7,000 positive ratings — an impressive tally, given it only screened in 500 cinemas. Bada-bing!
