THE TATE MODERN SET-PIECE IN MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE FALLOUT
There were many astonishing stunt sequences in Mission: Impossible Fallout, officially this summer’s Best Action Movie™; one saw Tom Cruise chase a baddie all the way to the top of the Tate Modern’s chimney in London.
In the film, Cruise takes a lift to the top; in reality, no such lift exists. The filmmakers had to construct a temporary lift on the side of the 325-foot chimney, with a dizzying ladder for the Cruiser to clamber up at the highest point.
Cruise wore a harness while on the roof, later digitally edited out — but despite recovering from a broken ankle, Cruise still cheerily waved at onlookers at the gallery’s viewing platform when the stunt was filmed back in February.
