Blue BLOODS: season 8
Out 15 october / Cert 15 / 874 mins
With all the CSIS retired, and just one Law & Order — Special Victims Unit — going until the debut of the newly announced Hate Crimes, fans of quality procedurals have found pickings a little slim of late. Well, they could do a lot worse than check out this CBS drama, which stars tom Selleck as NYPD commissioner Frank reagan, whose entire family are cops or lawyers. Switching nimbly between storylines featuring the different characters, from Bridget Moynahan’s Assistant DA to Will estes’ street-level flatfloot, at its best, Blue Bloods examines the various challenges facing cops in the modern world. this season also added an extra emotional layer in amongst all the casesof-the-week, with Donnie Wahlberg’s hardboiled detective, Danny reagan, dealing with the death of his wife. And when all else fails, and the dinnertable scenes between the family become a little too Walton-ish, you can find sufficient succour in Selleck and his glorious moustache.
