THE PETER
DEADPOOL 2
Beating out Quill, Parker and Rabbit, Rob Delaney’s loveable Deadpool 2 schlub won the coveted title of 2018’s best movie Peter. Here’s why…
The ’tache
Move over, Henry Cavill’s face-furniture. From the moment Peter appears, rocking up to an X-force audition with the confidence of a man who has a) no powers and b) less of a clue, his thick, commanding moustache becomes the movie’s focal point.
The flying
The moment that launched a thousand memes, as Peter — poor, noble, terrified Peter — skydives, ’tache unbuffeted by the high winds. You will believe a Peter can fly. Never mind that he’s heading to his grisly doom, it’s more inspirational than a thousand badass superhero landings.
The resurrection
In the post-credits sting, Peter is spared death by acid vomit after Deadpool travels back in time to save him, showing how he touches Deadpool’s heart. And, possibly, how the character’s post-trailer popularity (#Ifpeterdiesweriot) also resonated with the filmmakers.
