Big films tackled by little people

- MATTHEW PIERCE — 12

SEVEN SAMURAI

What was the film about?

It was about a village of farmers who hire some samurai to protect them from a group of bandits. There’s a big battle when the bandits come. Four of the samurai die. The farmers are all happy but the three samurai who are left are really sad about the others.

Who was your favourite character and why?

I like the samurai who showed up drunk when the others were about to go back to the village [Kikuchiyo, played by Toshirô Mifune]. He was funny and his acting was good.

What was the best bit of the film? I quite liked the sequence when they were trying to find the samurai and the youngest samurai [Katsushiro, played by Isao Kimura] hides behind the door to hit them on the head with a stick to see if they can parry the blow.

How did it compare to the last film you saw at the cinema?

The last film I saw in the cinema was Infinity War. They’re very different.

Seven Samurai has it all: funny bits, action-packed bits and clever bits.

Infinity War was more an action film where they killed off all of your favourite characters.

How many stars would you give it? I’d give it four-and-a-half, ’cause it was a very good film and I enjoyed it a lot, but it was a little slow to get going and I think they overdid some of the sad bits.
