The hummingbird Project
Director Kim Nguyen CAST Jesse Eisenberg, Alexander Skarsgård, Salma Hayek
COMING ACROSS as a true-life story (it’s utterly made-up), Nguyen’s entertaining film details the attempts of share-trader cousins — business-like Vincent (Eisenberg), techie Anton (Skarsgård) — to run a fibre optic cable from Kansas to a wall Street databank in New Jersey to gain a millisecond of advantage and make them billions. Stopping them are Hayek’s cartoony rival hedge-fund manager, the Amish community who don’t want their land disturbed and lastact stomach cancer. It’s familiar pluckyentrepreneurs-against-the-odds fare and gets bogged down in the technique of drilling, but Eisenberg’s energy pulls you through and the idea of slowing down in a sped-up world feels right.
