THE 12 WAYS KILLING EVE KILLS

WHY SEASON 2 IS JUST AS BRILLIANT AS THE FIRST. BY CARLA SOSENKO (AN AMERICAN WHO’S SEEN IT)

-

1 EVE AND VILLANELLE’S CHEMISTRY IS NEXT LEVEL.

Chemists out there: what are two elements that, when combined, are unpredictable and explosive (but like, in a good way)? That’s Eve and Villanelle. It’s a long, slow burn waiting to get these two reunited, so when they finally come together… ka-boom!

2 THERE’S A NEW PSYCHOPATH IN TOWN.

And Villanelle is not thrilled about it. For one thing, she’s stuck taking private contracts instead of doing the more exciting dirty work of international crime syndicate The Twelve. But more than that, a new killer means Eve’s attention is elsewhere, and an unappreciated Villanelle is a dangerous one.

3 SOMEONE RISES FROM THE DEAD.

Sadly, it’s not Bill (David Haig). But a character we assumed lost and gone forever is actually alive and well.

4 THE FASHION IS STILL DELIGHTFULLY BONKERS.

If there were a Best Dressed Assassins list, Villanelle would top it. The series’ new costume designer, Charlotte Mitchell (who replaces Phoebe de Gaye), leans in to the hitwoman’s liking of designer cosplay, be it dressing her in Oxford prep, a sexy dirndl or a long black mourning gown and veil. Nothing could top Season 1’s dreamy pink Molly Goddard creation, but expect lots of worthy runners-up.

5 VILLANELLE’S KILLS GET WEIRD(ER).

Fans of 17th-century Dutch art and torture porn alike will delight in Villanelle’s work in Amsterdam’s Red Light District, where she cuts an adversary down to size in the window of a brothel while wearing an adorably freaky mask. The audience watching through the window loves it, and so will you.
