WHO IS EMERALD FENNELL?
Everything you need to know about Killing Eve’s new showrunner and head writer
She studied English at Oxford University.
Fennell spent a gap year living in Paris as a teenager. An experience she revisited for Season 2’s opening episode in the French capital.
She’s starring as a young Camilla Shand (later Parker Bowles) in Season 3 of The Crown — opposite Josh O’connor (God’s Own Country) as Prince Charles. It will focus on their relationship in the early ’70s, before either were married. “The weird thing about Camilla Parker Bowles is that there’s very little about her as a young woman – which is quite freeing,” Fennell has said of playing the controversial royal.
She wrote a bestselling children’s fantasy book series called Shiverton Hall.
Previous TV acting gigs include Victoria, New Tricks, Chickens, Trial And Retribution and ’60s-set drama Call The Midwife, in which she played Nurse Patsy Mount. It was a ground-breaking role, with her character in a then-illegal samesex relationship with colleague Delia Busby.
She’s appeared in several films including The Danish Girl, Anna Karenina and Albert Nobbs.
Fennell wrote two episodes of E4 show Drifters in 2016.
In September of 2018 it was reported that Fennell was writing a ‘modern’ Cinderella musical with Andrew Lloyd Webber and playwright/screenwriter Tom Mcrae.
She’ll be making her film directorial debut with thriller Promising Young Woman — the latest project from Margot Robbie’s production company Luckychap Entertainment. The film will star Robbie and Carey Mulligan and is due to start production in 2019.
