PINT OF MILK

- ILLUSTRATION ARN0 OLLY RICHARDS

Shailene Woodley talks dairy, but not Robbie Williams. Still, no regrets. Now, ‘No Regrets’ — there’s a track. Great cameos from Neil Tennant and Neil Hannon from The Divine Comedy too.

I was one of Fagin’s boys in a production of Oliver Twist. It wasn’t actually a school play, because we didn’t do plays at school. It was community theatre. I enjoyed it very much but it remains the only stage play I’ve ever been in. It was a one-and-done deal.

Do you have a nickname?

When I was growing up, people used to call me ‘Bean’. Like, “Beans, beans, the musical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot.” It wasn’t because of that rhyme, to be clear. I think it was just because it rhymed with the end of Shailene.

Do you have a signature dish?

I love to cook, so it depends on who’s coming over. I do some good meat dishes, but if I’ve got more healthy people coming over, I’ll do a lot of roasted veggies, homemade hummus — I love Mediterranean food.

When in your life were you most starstruck?

I met Bernie Sanders in 2016 and that was a pretty big deal to me. I think I managed to be pretty professional, but inside I was screaming, “You changed my country in a lot of ways and I have mad respect for you!”

What is the worst smell in the world?

A Porta Potti [portable toilet] that’s been left in the sun.

When were you last naked outdoors?

Oh, not long ago. I think a couple of days ago. I have a pretty private set-up here. I wake up in the morning and I’ll go outside and enjoy my tea without worrying about clothes.

What one thing do you do better than anyone else you know?

I’m extremely disciplined. If I put my mind to something, I will slay. But only because I’m incredibly strict with myself.

Have you ever written fan mail to anyone?

Oh, lots. I am a big fan of fan mail. I think it’s a very nice thing to send someone. I write fan letters to my friends, too. I wrote a letter to John Green, who wrote The Fault In Our Stars, and he wrote back with a pretty beautiful letter.

How much is a pint of milk?

I don’t know! I’m going to guess at £1.50? Too much? 75 cents? I’m just guessing here.

What scares you?

I have a fear of dinosaurs. Look, if dinosaurs ever wind up coming back, I will be very upset. When

I watched Jurassic Park as a child, the idea of science bringing back dinosaurs was enough to scar me for life. I also have a fear of being stuck in a submarine underwater.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever put in your mouth?

I think a really bad salad can ruin your entire day. If it’s soggy and has been sitting out. That will really give you some upset stomach vibes.

What was the last TV show you got properly addicted to?

Escape At Dannemora. Ben Stiller directed it and Patricia Arquette, Benicio Del Toro and Paul Dano were in it. It was incredibly captivating. It’s kind of a mystery thriller. At the end of every episode I wanted more.

Have you ever stolen things from a hotel?

Probably some towels. But I am notorious for stealing plates or silverware from events. I hide them in a big purse. I only do it if it’s a one-off event, so the thing has been made just for that. I’ll take flower arrangements, because they’ll just get thrown out. Waste not want not!

Which movie have you seen the most?

Dirty Dancing. I first saw it when I was about seven. It’s a classic. I’m a hopeless romantic who loves love, so I’m so into how in love they are. It’s kind of cheesy and I love that. I want to make a movie like that one day.
