The Falcon And The Winter Soldier/loki

Unfiltered, uncensored, uncompromising trailer reactions from team EMPIRE

John Nugent (News Editor): So, the MCU takeover of Disney+ continues.

Ben Travis (Online Staff Writer): I’m excited. Loki looks wild — like it’s doing whatever it wants. The Falcon And The Winter Soldier feels like more of a mainline MCU next chapter.

John: Is this the museum you see in Winter Soldier? The Smithsonian?

Ben: If it’s the Smithsonian, does that mean Wonder Woman is working here?

John: Sam is clearly trying to grasp the legacy of Captain America. I get the impression he’s not going to actually take on the shield until the end of the series.

Chris Hewitt (Review Editor): One of the things about Sam is that, obviously, he doesn’t have any superpowers. He’s just a bloke with a shield. I wonder how the show is going to address that. He doesn’t have the super-soldier serum coursing through his veins. He can’t do the flamboyant throwing with the shield that Cap did.

John: Is there any of the serum left?

Chris: I’m not sure how they will resolve this. Though I have a funny feeling Chris Evans will make a small cameo.

John: Who’s this? Anyone know? Chris: That’s her from Solo! Erin Kellyman. Someone on the internet suggests she’s playing Flag-smasher. James Dyer (Digital Editor-in-chief ):

Flag-tearer, surely?

John: So if you don’t have any flags, you’re safe from her? Mike Cathro (Deputy Art Director):

That’s not America’s ass!

Chris: No, that’s America’s asshole. This is US Agent — he’s a more of fascistic take on Captain America. A right dickhead. He’s not a bad guy, per se, but he’s antagonistic. James: This looks like a Trump rally. Chris: Make Captain America great again! Nick de Semlyen (Deputy Editor): A very

Predator handshake there.

James: “Falcon! You sunnava bitch!”

John:‘whaddsa matter — S.H.I.E.L.D. got you pushing too much vibranium?’ James: They’re no Arnie and Carl Weathers. Chris: The thing that worries me about this show is the dialogue feels a bit B-team. This isn’t Marcus and Mcfeeley, or Shane Black or James Gunn, for example.

James: I hope the banter is better in the show.

John: I’m sure it will be. Anthony Mackie is a very naturally funny man. And Marvel do like to keep their cards close to their chest. They’ll be holding good stuff back.

Chris: The last bit is very reminiscent of Captain America. He leaps out of a plane in Avengers and in Winter Soldier.

John: He’s going to save all the flags!

Ben: I’m more invested in this as a continuation of the characters.

John: It feels like Captain America 3.5. Nick: ‘Finding Zemo’! I agree. It feels like a traditional Marvel movie.

John: Alright. Now time for Loki.

Nick: “I’m Loki. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this mess.”

John: It does have a bit of a ‘recordscratch’ vibe.

James: The world’s most confusing lift.

John:what is this place? The Time Variance Authority, right? And Owen Wilson is some sort of time cop?

James: I want Jean-claude Van Damme if there’s gonna be time cops.

Chris: The TVA keeps tabs on every reality and time anomaly, apparently. I don’t understand how Loki has the ability to travel through time because he doesn’t have the Time Stone, he has the Space Stone.

Ben: Have they arrested him because he is the anomaly? He shouldn’t exist. He’s escaped from his reality. He’s messed with the timeline.

Chris: The thing to remember with all this is that this is the Loki of the first Avengers film, not the Loki of Thor: Ragnarok. He hasn’t done any learning or growing. He’s still quite a cheeky, malevolent presence.

James: Is that Mephisto in the background? Chris: Mephisto is basically the Marvel version of the devil. I don’t understand how they’re going to do it, if it is him.

James: I like that Running Man-style collar. John: I don’t really know what’s going on. Who are these guys? What’s happening?

Nick: This is a very intriguing trailer. It’s mysterious and weird.

James: Is this show ‘Loki does Quantum

Leap’? Nick: This is the one I’m most excited about, thinking about it. Feels like it’s been ages since we’ve had proper Loki time. Ben: It’s good to see Tom Hiddleston being cool and fun again. It felt like he disappeared lately. You can tell he’s relishing the role. Chris: Kevin Feige did say, when they first announced this show, that it would be Loki messing around with time. This trailer really intrigues me. The scope of it looks huge, but also it looks completely bonkers. THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER IS ON DISNEY+ FROM 19 MARCH. LOKI IS ON DISNEY+ FROM MAY TBC
