ASSASSINS

When two women were arrested in 2017 for the brazen public killing of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un’s half brother in a Malaysian airport, a host of questions cropped up around them. In this account of the event, the details may be murky, but the filmmaking has a fascinating precision. Director Ryan White (The Keepers, The Case Against 8) doesn’t exactly break the mould in his examination of the circumstances of this Corleone-esque crime, but the facts he uncovers are both outraging and legitimately shocking at times. While never quite ascending to a higher level, the documentary serves as a compelling case study of what North Korean powers are capable of — and a chilling warning about democratic vigilance.
