THE BASILISK

ANYA TAYLOR-JOY on HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS

-

Cineworld Leicester Square, 2002: I was six years old when I decided the cinema was magical enough to warrant a uniform. I swore I would never go to the movies without my velvet magenta dress and my knee-high boots, and the outfit’s debut would be Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets. I had just moved to England, did not speak a word of the language and yet, in those hallowed halls, it did not matter. As I peeked at the basilisk through my mother’s fingers, I was hooked forever. And whilst the magenta dress no longer fits, it gives me comfort to know I will never outgrow my love of the cinema.
