I remember watching Billy Elliot with my parents when I was a kid and I was too young to get in .... My big subterfuge to trick the spotty teenage ticket guy was to chew gum — a VERY grown-up thing to do. It worked. The cinema wasn’t huge but full, and since this was my first time going to the cinema as an ‘adult’, I remember it vividly. I sat with my parents, utterly captivated, and I remember the sound of tears from the audience (could have just been me!). It was the feeling in the cinema — it felt so alive, like everyone in the audience was holding their breath.
