Small-town audiences in New Zealand could get quite passionate about films on a Saturday afternoon. I remember a packed cinema singing the theme song to Ghostbusters as the film began. You couldn’t hear the movie. We were that excited. I was also so very relieved when Marty Mcfly’s dad (that weird actor who looks like a vampire’s skeleton) knocked out Biff, thus enabling his parents to hook up and ultimately ensuring his birth sometime in the future. Big moment for Marty, and we all felt pretty good for him in the cinema that day. I felt a tingle rush through my body. I simply nodded and thought to myself, “You did it, Marty. You didn’t bang your mum.”
