My ‘formative years’ response would have to be seeing Star Wars for the first (and second, and third, and fourth) time. And Indiana Jones. The transportive aspect of going to the movies was never more obvious than going to those movies. New worlds and adventures. Also, The Man With The Golden Gun. For my whole life, James Bond movies were my National Geographic and travelogue rolled into one. As a kid growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, I never thought I would see Europe, Asia etc, much less New Orleans! So much fun.

But my most memorable ‘crowd-erupting’ moment was sitting in a cinema in NYC in the BALCONY watching South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. After the opening number, the laughter was so intense that the man across the aisle literally fell out of his chair and into the aisle. The laughter rolled like waves for the whole film and I left happy and in pain. But not as much pain as the guy who fell on his ass.
