BULLETS AND THE MONSTER
WALTER HILL on SHANE and THE THING (1951)
To hell with the audience. What I remember most vividly is my response... The scene in Shane where Jack Palance shoots Elisha Cook. Equalled by the scene in Shane where Alan Ladd shoots Jack Palance.
Audience response: The Thing (Hawks), when the Monster comes through the door and gets his arm caught. It was the first time I remember an audience actually screaming. I was just a kid in a neighbourhood theatre with my younger brother. He got so scared he ran out of the theatre.
I had to go get him.
