The Pitt roles that never were

- NICK DE SEMLYEN

CHAD SCHMIDT

This tale of an actor — to be played by Pitt — who looks “like Brad Pitt dragged behind a bus” was set to have a scene where Chad and Brad meet at the Thelma & Louise auditions.

TO THE WHITE SEA

Pitt shines in the Coens’ Burn After Reading as fitness dummy Chad. A shame, then, that their spin on the James Dickey novel, about a pilot gunned down over Tokyo, fell through. Pitt would have taken a near-speechless role.

THE FOUNTAIN

In 2002, Pitt left Darren Aronofsky’s sci-fi, which Aronofsky compared to a break-up: “It is hard to say if it was one thing [that caused it]. It wasn’t like he left the toothpaste cap off the toothpaste.”

GO LIKE HELL

At one point, the movie now known as Ford V Ferrari didn’t star Matt Damon and Christian Bale, but Pitt and Tom Cruise. The two actors even did a table read in 2013.
