Ellora Torchia
STAR OF PANDEMIC HORROR IN THE EARTH
ON HER MYSTERIOUS CHARACTER IN BEN WHEATLEY’S IN THE EARTH
“She was really intriguing. I didn’t really know what to make of her when I first read the script. There was a lot of back and forth, in a really healthy, creative and stimulating way. Ben answers text messages at all hours of the day. He’s got such a strong vision, there was never a moment that you felt unsafe.”
ON HER OTHER HORROR MOMENT IN MIDSOMMAR
“The big scene with the cliff, where the people fall off — I think we filmed that for, like, four days. One scene. Everybody was just crying the whole time! Ari [Aster, director] has another brilliant mind. Working with Ben was completely different — we filmed the entire film in 15 days.”
ON FALLING INTO ACTING
“My parents were big hippies, and wanted to travel. Up until the age of about 15, I was in a new country every six months or so. It was a real nomad-style life. With that came a search for some kind of stability, which I seemed to find in storytelling. Acting in drama at school, I just felt at home every time.”
ON HER SIDE HUSTLE AS A VEGAN CHEESEMAKER
“I have my own little business with my dad. We make handmade tofu and vegan cheese in London. That’s a fulltime job as well, so managing both is a little tricky. But I love food. Big fan!”
