GET UP TO SPEED ON JAMES GUNN’S SUPERMAN: LEGACY

IT’S NOT ANOTHER ORIGIN STORY

Despite being the first film of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s freshly minted DCU (Chapter 1: ‘Gods and Monsters’), the studio co-heads promise it won’t re-tell the story of Krypton’s destruction and Kal-el’s Smallville upbringing. “There is no young Clark,” Gunn stated on Instagram, while Safran described the story as focusing on the adult Superman “balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing”.

IT WON’T GO DARK, BUT IT MIGHT MAKE YOU CRY

Unlike Zack Snyder’s vision of a troubled Man Of Steel, this version will be brighter and more optimistic. Although… Gunn has confirmed Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s comic-book series All-star Superman will be a big influence on his script. This bittersweet tale followed Superman’s quest to finally achieve world peace, after discovering the Earth’s sun is slowly killing him. Hence the ‘Legacy’ part of the title, we guess.

David Corenswet have been pleasingly confirmed as the film’s two leads, and we can expect plenty of workplace-romance sparks to fly between their Lane and Kent. For there shall be office-based antics. “He’s working. He’s a reporter. He’s at the Daily Planet,” confirmed Gunn of his Supes, while also promising the return of plucky photographer Jimmy Olsen. As soon as Brosnahan and Corenswet were in place, the next priority for Gunn was to find his Lex Luthor, who no doubt will be doing everything he can to mess up our hero’s Superplans. At the time of writing, the role remained uncast, but reportedly both Skarsgård brothers, Alexander and Bill, were on the shortlist, alongside Nicholas Hoult. A NEW SUPERGROUP WILL BE INTRODUCED
