PARIS
Toby Bateman, managing director at Mr Porter
“I travel most regularly to the traditional fashion capitals — Milan, Paris and New York — for fashion shows, general business meetings and to host company events. I do try to plan my daily outfits in advance and take into consideration the meetings I have and how much travelling I’ll be doing. I err on the smart side — overdressing is always better than under — but not too formal. I pack separate trousers and Prada blazers with smart but not ‘dressy’ shoes (usually a John Lobb loafer) and neutral blue/chambray shirts. If you keep things in a colour palette of navy/grey/blue then you can’t go wrong and it’s always wise to pack a couple of extra shirts. I’ll also pack a dress-down outfit (a pair of jeans, Common Projects trainers and a T-shirt) if I can get a casual dinner opportunity to relax.”
