“Simultaneously the hardest and the clearest thing I’ve ever written,” says Holden of his piece on his breakdown at a meditation retreat. “After years of abstaining from mining my personal life for stories, I was overwhelmed by events I could only make sense of and survive through writing down. I realised they were happening to lots of other people, and getting the story out there was the only thing to do.”
