DINING BY DESIGN

Memorable meals are made through atmosphere

-

If you think back to those most indelible of dinner parties, it’s rarely the food that springs to mind first. More likely it’s the conversations held under dim, romantic lighting, fuelled by a few glasses of Chablis too many. Such an atmosphere can be set with candles and artfully drawn curtains – but this is 2019, and there are ways to create a vibe which don’t require candlelight and flammable fabrics.

Siemens studioLine integrates sleek industrial design and emotive lighting into smart kitchen appliances. Throughout the range, graphite-coloured steel and darkened glass lend an understated appeal, accented by stainless steel dials and crisp touchscreen displays. In short, they look and do the business – and then some.

The varioLift ceiling hood has customisable white LED lighting, so you can go from bright and cheerful to moody and intimate at the touch of a button or tap of a screen. It runs at whisperquiet volume while effectively removing cooking smells and grease, and can be raised out of sight when not needed – crucial for open-plan dining or meet-cutes round the kitchen island.

The Home Connect functionality removes the awkwardness that comes with wearing chef and host hats simultaneously. Rather than having to fiddle with dials and keep a close eye on boiling pots, you can set cooking temperatures through Amazon Alexa and have the extractor adjust itself automatically, while you charm your guests with your objectively hilarious chatter.

Food preparation is made simple with the freeInduction hob – a single sheet of black glass that senses the size and shape of up to six pots and pans, and heats them accordingly anywhere on the surface. And thanks to a Bluetooth sensor that attaches to your pot, the hob also keeps a precise temperature of liquids within, putting an end to split sauces and overdone veg.

No dinner party is complete without libations, which are chilled to optimum temperature by the independent cooling zones found in the aCool premium refrigerators and wine cabinets – the latter featuring three independently controlled zones for professional storage of red and white wines. For bigger gatherings, the 189 ice cubes produced daily by the CI30BP02 builtin fridge-freezer are the real stars of the show.

Much more than the sum of its parts, Siemens studioLine represents the cutting edge of kitchen appliance design, along with genuinely useful technology. By doing some of the heavy lifting for you, it could even make you a better host.
