WILKS WINES

BRINGING THE HIGHEST QUALITY TO YOUR DOOR

Essex Life - - FOOD & DRINK -

Here at Wilks & Company Wine Merchants we love nothing more than discovering and bringing to our customers wines to delight and even surprise. There is a certain undeniable vindication about following your gut and uncovering some “hidden gems”. Over the years we have been fortunate in being able to pursue wines with subtle differences from the humdrum norm, with trust earned from many customers, and to this day are still finding charming twists on even modern classics. For some recent examples, this year we have been very proud to import a new Picpoul Rosé from Domaine Grangette – alongside their signature Picpoul Blanc. Picpoul, like Pinot Grigio, is traditionally difficult to harvest significant character from but Grangette have triumphed against the odds with this delicate, classy Rosé with red fruit. The cute hen on the bottle mimicking the wine’s title “Picoti Picota” is sure to bring a smile.

Another new development for us this year, from one of our largest suppliers still pushing forward, is the Grand Viognier 1612 from Cellier des Chartreux. Presented in an impressive, deep-belled bottle, this gorgeous Grand Viognier has the typical Lychee notes along with stone fruit and a fabulous nose. Chartreux have also released a cheekily named Merlot-Syrah blend titled Chamasutra. The rich dark red fruit flavours and deep spices are sure to tickle many a fancy.

Finding a single new, excellent wine is one thing, but when you can see quality across the board within one winery it makes our hearts sing.We are very proud to present wines from both Tradition and Signature ranges of Domaine Haut Marin. Under supervision of Winemakers and Owners Jegerlehner & Prataviera, these Gascony wines are expertly blended and we have a great variety. Personal recommendations from this grower are the “Fossiles” blend of Colombard, Gros-Manseng and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, and the Rosé “Gourmand” blend from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tannat and Egiodola varieties.

The last of our new arrivals, and perhaps the example we’re most proud of, is a new Sancerre range we have from Domaine Fleuriet. These delightful Organic wines have top-quality classic flavours, and the centrepiece “Tradition” Blanc Sancerre is nigh unbeatable for the money.

We couldn’t leave you without a Festive Champagne recommendation and our Artisinal growers Champagne Colin (Pronounced Coe-Lan) are just the ticket. Always a cut above, their Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru “Parallele” is sublime with honey and brioche flavours. As an Extra Brut it has virtually no Dosage – some call this “Skinny Champagne”, we call it “Delicious”!

Whilst we have made our name serving many restaurants across the region, we have always catered to a wide number of public customers as well and our dedicated team are ever ready to help match you with selections chosen to compliment your tastes. Keep your eyes peeled to our website for our latest curated festive boxes, packed with great-value wines to suit every style.
