Blackwells turkeys and geese

Blackwells have been rearing Christmas poultry since 1983, we started with just 50 turkeys, 13 geese and 100 chickens our demand has quickly grown and this year we have 5500 turkeys, 2000 geese and 500 large chickens reared especially for the Thanksgiving and Christmas market. Each bird is fed on a whole wheat grain-based diet that also utilises naked oats without the use of hormones, growth promoters or biscuit waste.
All our birds are free range bronze turkeys which means they are free to roam in large grass paddocks all day. They are reared to maturity, skillfully hand finished and ‘game hung’ for 10-14 days which is part of our golden turkey association requirements which gives us a far superior tasting bird compared to most available. Once the birds arrive on the farm they are never crated for transport as they are prepared on site creating little stress as possible.
We can provide you with everything from a whole bronze free range turkey to feed the whole family to a boneless breast to serve a smaller party.
Our free range geese are also bought in to the farm as day old goslings in mid April then the second batch a month late, because the geese are bought in to the farm at this time it means they get the benefit of the spring grass which is full of nutrition then they move on to our home grown wheat. Our geese come beautifully boxed with a cooking leaflet and pop up timer to making cooking much less hassle.
Our Christmas tasting day is on the 17th and 18th November this year for anyone that would like to come and try our produce before placing an order!
If you’re looking for something special for the Christmas table we also do a superb three bird roast which compromises of a goose, a chicken and a pheasant all placed within each other and stuffed with our own sage and apricot stuffing. The roast is boned for ease of carving and makes a lovely dish eaten hot or cold.
This year we celebrated our 10th anniversary in the farm shop. We are committed to supporting local suppliers and over 90% of the produce we market is sourced from within a 20-mile radius of the farm. We source our meat from local farmers known and trusted by ourselves for their good husbandry skills and rare breed animals.
We don’t just supply poultry for Christmas, we can also supply you with various cuts of meat from the butchery counter. The most popular products we sell at Christmas growing year on year are our local rare breed ribs of beef which are hung for a minimum of 21 days to enhance flavour, traditional hams and gammons which are cut from our own rare breed pork and cured for us and our wide selection of sausages; whether you want chipolatas, traditional sausages or pigs in blankets these are all hand made by our butchers on site.
In addition to all our meat products we also offer all the lovely treats our kitchen team make savoury and sweet; pigs in blankets, sausage meat and four different flavours of pork stuffings; sage & onion, white wine & apricot, port & cranberry and apple & chestnut these are always a favourite with our customers!
