Marionettes want fans to string along
ABERDEEN band Marionettes are to play a special in-store gig at One Up Records in support of their second EP on Saturday afternoon. My New Marionettes EP was released at the tail end of last year but was only previously available at the band’s shows. Packing some seriously catchy indiepop tunes, it is brilliant fun and the band can’t wait for the public to get their hands on it. Singer and guitarist Daryl Rankin said: “This is our first ever in-store and it’s a great opportunity for us to get our music out there to people who wouldn’t perhaps hear it otherwise. We recorded the EP a while ago, so we’re ready to hit the ground running and get it out there.” ON SATURDAY night, local grunge-rock band Which Way Now headline at The Moorings. Their gig comes after scooping an impressive four awards at the recent
Fudge Awards 2011 including Best Live Act and Best Band in Aberdeen. Supported by Glasgow’s Wake Via Satellite and Aberdeen rockers The Shakedown Project, this is sure to be a fantastic night. Frontwoman Heather Walker said: “Things are feeling great within the band right now and we’re all really pumped for playing our first gig of the year. “The atmosphere in The Moorings is always amazing – the people are ace and the sound quality is superb. “Over the next year we want to keep playing as many shows as possible, including some outside Aberdeen, and it would be great to record another CD. And, of course, there’s always world domination!”
SATURDAY night also boasts the second Help For Fiji SoundFest, held in the Tunnels 2 and organised in conjunction with Volunteer Eco Student Abroad. As well as featuring a host of brilliant comedians, the fundraising gig will also showcase some of Aberdeen’s finest musical talent including SHY & DRS, Hellhouse, pictured left, Jamie Rodden, Watermark, Ruairi Mackinnon and Brian Johnston. The gig will also feature University of Aberdeen student Bryan Alvarez, and Fife-based band The Carousels. Organiser Tanya Morrison said: “Come along and make it an amazing night.”
