Steel yourself for top funnymen

Evening Express (City Final) - The Guide - - ARTS AND STAGE - By Scott Begbie

Comedian Stephen K Amos is set to get the Music Hall audience laughing.

COMEDY fans are in for a double treat tonight as two of the country’s top funnymen roll into the Granite City. Stephen K Amos will have them rolling in the aisles at the Music Hall, while Mark Steel will be doing the same over at The Lemon Tree. Stephen is in town with his Best Medicine show that is on an extensive tour of the UK. Best known for his own BBC2 show and appearances on programmes like the One Show, Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week, he has built up a huge fanbase. The aim of his current standup tour is to prove that we should forget the gloom and doom and look on the brighter side of things. “Laughter is the best medicine ... that’s my philosophy on life,” he said in a recent interview. “Lots of things happen to all of us. Horrible things, tragedies, dire straits. “The thing is, when you’re in that moment, experiencing those atrocities, it’s awful – but when you look back you laugh.” And while Stephen has done his share of taboo-busting humour in the past, he is careful not to cross lines. “If you’re just being crude, that’s not funny. There’s got to be a point to what you’re saying, got to be able to make people laugh, got to be able to justify it,” he said. Meanwhile, Mark, a regular on shows like Have I Got News For You, will be offering the Lemon Tree audience a fascinating insight into, well, Aberdeen.
