FRANK Si­na­tra once de­scribed Scot­land’s Carol Kidd as the “best kept se­cret of Bri­tish jazz”. As com­pli­ments go, they do not get much bet­ter. Si­na­tra was left stunned by her voice when she sup­ported Ol’ Blue Eyes at Ham­p­den in 1990. Carol, who will head­line The Lemon Tree on Wed­nes­day, has since be­come one of the defin­ing soul voices of her gen­er­a­tion. “Play­ing with Si­na­tra was a once-in-a-life­time con­cert for me,” she said. “Af­ter the con­cert I was ush­ered into his dress­ing room to meet him.
