Snow gates closed

A NORTH-EAST road has been closed following heavy snowfall. Police advised motorists at 9pm yesterday that the snow gates on the A939 between Cockbridge and Tomintoul were closed as a result of adverse weather. Drivers were also urged to take care on the B974 Cairn O’mount Banchory to Fettercairn route amid reports of wintry showers and poor road conditions. As temperatures plunged below zero, Aberdeenshire Council also asked people to drive to the conditions and be aware of ice. Gritters were out in Marr from 6pm last night and operating on a number of routes from 5.30am today. The Met Office said there would be a frosty start to today with patchy ice, followed by sunny intervals and showers of hail, sleet and hill snow.
