Texas gig sells out in a few hours

A GIG by Scots rock­ers Texas to help cel­e­brate the re­open­ing of Aberdeen’s Mu­sic Hall sold out within hours of go­ing on sale. Tick­ets for the show on De­cem­ber 16 – the first rock con­cert at the venue fol­low­ing its re­vamp – went on sale on Fri­day morn­ing and were snapped up by mid-af­ter­noon of the same day. Aberdeen Per­form­ing Arts di­rec­tor of pro­gram­ming and cre­ative projects Ben Tor­rie said: “We can’t wait for the Mu­sic Hall to re­open and we think Texas is the per­fect act for our re­open­ing. We are de­lighted that Aberdeen au­di­ences share our en­thu­si­asm for this fan­tas­tic band.” The city cen­tre venue will re­open its doors on De­cem­ber 8 fol­low­ing a multi-mil­lion-pound trans­for­ma­tion with a day of cel­e­bra­tion fea­tur­ing a spe­cial ap­pear­ance from Travis front­man Fran Healy lead­ing the Mu­sic Hall com­mu­nity choir, fol­lowed by the 50th an­niver­sary Evening Ex­press Carol Con­cert on Sun­day evening. Other con­certs tak­ing place at the Mu­sic Hall this De­cem­ber as part of the re­open­ing cel­e­bra­tions in­clude the BBC Scot­tish Sym­phony Orches­tra with stel­lar clas­si­cal pi­anist Alice Sara Ott and in­ter­na­tion­ally renowned con­duc­tor Alpesh Chauhan on De­cem­ber 15, and Phil Cunningham’s Christ­mas Song­book on De­cem­ber 20, which will fea­ture the leg­endary Scot­tish mu­si­cian joined by singers Karen Mathe­son and Eddi Reader, and in­stru­men­tal­ists John Mccusker, Kris Dr­ever, Ian Carr, Kevin Macguire and a guest brass band. Ben said: “The BBC Scot­tish Sym­phony Orches­tra is equally ex­cit­ing (as Texas), par­tic­u­larly with spec­tac­u­lar pi­anist Alice Sara Ott, who is in­ter­na­tion­ally her­alded as a ma­jor clas­si­cal mu­sic star. “Phil Cunningham’s star-stud­ded Christ­mas Song­book is a top show and a splen­did way to wrap up our re­open­ing cel­e­bra­tions.” Tick­ets are on sale now.
