FAN HITS RIGHT NOTE AHEAD OF HAMPDEN TIE

A DONS-DAFT football fan has penned a cup final song themed around two cornerstones of Aberdeen FC – Graeme Shinnie and seagulls.

The tongue-in-cheek medley was put together by 33-year-old football writer JJ Bull over a couple of days. Originally from Oldmeldrum but now based in London, his song, The Graeme Shinnie Song, is available on Apple Music and Youtube. It’s opening lyric sets the tone for the song: “Graeme Shinnie has the power of a seagull.” Describing him as “half man, half gull”, the tune goes on to detail how the Dons captain collects yellow cards to build his nest with. JJ said: “Seagulls are everywhere. I associate that with going to Pittodrie. “It’s mostly because I thought it was funny and light-hearted. “Everything I like about this current Aberdeen team is embodied by Shinnie. “Because I love him. He’s the captain. He leads by example. He makes everyone else around him better. “Writing the song took a couple of days. “I had the idea a while ago. I knew I’d do one if we reached the final. “It wrote itself very quickly and I recorded it on Friday. “I wanted to tip the hat to the European Song and World In Motion. “I just wanted to capture that sound and vibe you get from the really fun cup final songs of old. “To be honest, the words I kind of made up as I went along.” JJ, who was also behind the 2014 cup final song which spurred the team on to victory, penned the latest effort on his own, while his girlfriend helped with the video. Although he couldn’t predict a scoreline, JJ reckoned the Dons might just have a chance of bringing home the silverware. He said: “I always think predictions are difficult. “The important thing is the players remember the game plan when they go out onto the pitch. “If they focus and remember what they’re supposed to be doing, they’ll be fine. “I think Celtic are by far the favourites, but as long as Aberdeen play as well as they can, I think we’ve got a chance.” The video can be found at bit.ly/2zuktpo
