Evening Express (City Final) - - News -

A HEALTH board has been issued with guidance following a data breach. The Evening Express reported last month that the details of almost 100 patients’ hospital stays were exposed after papers were dumped in a city bin. The confidential handover notes were discovered by a member of the public outside their home. NHS Grampian reported itself to the Information Commissioner’s Office for the breach and the regulator today said it has issued guidance to the board. An ICO spokeswoman said: “The case involving NHS Grampian has been closed, with advice provided to the data controller on how to improve its data protection practices. “Anybody with concerns about how their personal data has been handled is free to make a complaint to the ICO.” A spokeswoman for NHS Grampian said: “We can confirm guidance on this matter has been received. “We would reassure the public we take data security very seriously. All staff have been reminded of their responsibility when it comes to handling confidential information.”
