Con­trac­tor ap­pointed for Hauda­gain

A CON­TRAC­TOR for an £18 mil­lion pro­ject on a ma­jor city round­about has been ap­pointed. Far­rans Con­struc­tion will take on the im­prove­ment works at the Hauda­gain round­about, which will see a “by­pass” cre­ated to link North An­der­son Drive and Auch­mill Road. The pro­ject, which is ex­pected to be com­pleted in 2021, is aimed to al­le­vi­ate traf­fic at the busy junc­tion, which was once dubbed the worst of its kind in Europe. The value of the con­tract from Trans­port Scot­land is more than £17.6 mil­lion, and in­cludes the main 1,600ft road and three years of up­keep and main­te­nance. Work is ex­pected to be­gin once the last sec­tion of the by­pass, the bridge over the Don, is com­plete next month. Ross Grant, the city coun­cil’s trans­port spokesman, said: “After re­peated de­lays to the com­mence­ment of works at the Hauda­gain, it has to be wel­come news that a con­trac­tor has been ap­pointed.” Aberdeen Don­side MSP Mark Mcdon­ald added: “It’s great to see that the Hauda­gain con­tract has been awarded.”
