CAM­PAIGN teams were ramp­ing up their elec­tion bids to­day as they reached the fi­nal days of cam­paign­ing be­fore the big vote. With only five days left to polling, prospec­tive politi­cians were pledg­ing to step up their cam­paign­ing and fight for their votes. Lib Dem Mike Rum­bles, who is con­test­ing Aberdeen­shire West against the SNP’s Den­nis Robert­son, Tory Nanette Milne and Labour’s Jean Mor­ri­son said: “I have been on the doorsteps of 2,500 peo­ple so far. “This is a key mo­ment in the elec­tion cam­paign. We are work­ing very hard.” The SNP’s Kevin Ste­wart, who is stand­ing against Labour’s Lewis Mac­don­ald, Sheila Thom­son for the Lib Dems and Tory Sandy Wal­lace in Aberdeen Cen­tral said: “I will be try­ing to speak to as many peo­ple as pos­si­ble and will be run­ning a pos­i­tive cam­paign high­light­ing what the SNP has done.” Tory Alex John­stone is fight­ing the An­gus North and Mearns seat against Labour’s Kevin Hutchens, Lib Dem San­jay Sa­mani and Nigel Don from the SNP. He said: “We’ve done ev­ery­thing we can be do­ing and the elec­tion cam­paign has been suc­cess­ful. “We cer­tainly won’t be sitting with our feet up in the last few days.” Bar­ney Crock­ett, Labour can­di­date for Aberdeen Don­side against the SNP’s Brian Adam, Tory Ross Thom­son and Lib Dem Mil­lie McLeod said: “This is a cru­cial time for Labour to make sure we put the SNP un­der scrutiny in front of the Scot­tish peo­ple. “I will be out­side schools, in shop­ping ar­eas, speak­ing to peo­ple and work­ing round the clock.”
