THE Ste­wart Milne Group North-east Open gets un­der­way at Cults this week­end with for­mer cham­pion Jonathan Lints (DL Aberdeen) seeded to re­gain the men’s ti­tle.

How­ever, Ru­bis­law teenager Bruce Stra­chan, the num­ber two seed, has been en­joy­ing a rich vein of form and could pose a threat, while an­other for­mer cham­pion, Jimmy Wood jun, now play­ing for Es­porta Hamil­ton, makes a wel­come re­turn.

Stone­haven’s Matthew Colvin, with the con­fined and district ti­tles to his name this sum­mer, is also ca­pa­ble of caus­ing an up­set and opens his ac­count against Ru­bis­law’s Cal­lum Michie.

In the women’s event, Claire Birnie, the de­fend­ing cham­pion, and Mor­ven Duff are seeded to make it an all-host-club fi­nal with the lat­ter tipped to lift both the 16-and-un­der and 14-and-un­der events.

Play gets un­der­way to­mor­row, with the main fi­nals a week to­day.
