If you had to be locked in a theatre overnight, which one would it be? The Theatre Royal Haymarket (below), because it has a friendly ghost. Patrick Stewart saw a gentleman in the wings wearing dark-coloured overalls when I directed him in Waiting for Godot. He turned as pale as a sheet. Favourite pub? The Grapes in Limehouse, which I co-own. The best seat is in the Dickens Snug by the fire; apparently, Dickens wrote the opening chapter of Our Mutual Friend there.
