If you had to be locked in a the­atre overnight, which one would it be? The The­atre Royal Hay­mar­ket (be­low), be­cause it has a friendly ghost. Pa­trick Ste­wart saw a gen­tle­man in the wings wear­ing dark-coloured over­alls when I di­rected him in Wait­ing for Godot. He turned as pale as a sheet. Favourite pub? The Grapes in Lime­house, which I co-own. The best seat is in the Dick­ens Snug by the fire; ap­par­ently, Dick­ens wrote the open­ing chap­ter of Our Mu­tual Friend there.
