It was watching my vegetarian boyfriend Thom heat up his sad frozen pizza every time we had people over for dinner that inspired me to start my blog, The Reluctant Vegetarian. There’s so much more to veggie food. At Christmas, the trick is to pack in as much flavour as possible. Puff pastry pinwheels with mushroom paste, bread sauce and roast vegetables go down a treat, but ironically it’s the meat-lovers who always scoff the nut roast. This year we’ll be having Christmas at Thom’s parents in Greenwich. They’re doing the cooking, which suits me. Every year we squeeze 65 people a night into the converted Hackney pub we call home for a string of festive supper club pop-ups, so by Christmas I’m happy to let someone else take over. The highlight is always a boozy chorus of ‘12 Days of Christmas’ with my housemate Dan [Gillespie Sells from The Feeling] on the piano. At least I don’t have to do much Christmas shopping — Thom and I are getting married in July so we’ve agreed not to spend anything before then. He proposed last New Year’s Eve, which was the best gift you could ask for.
