MATT MAKES BAKE OFF SHINE
I didn’t enjoy last year’s Great British Bake Off: too many clichéd innuendos, not enough warmth. Five minutes into the new series and it’s clear that the missing ingredient was Matt Lucas. He sings, he quips, he does funny Boris Johnson impressions, he eats all the cakes and he spars brilliantly with Noel Fielding, who in previous seasons has looked as lost as Morecambe without Wise. From Sura knocking Dave’s pineapple upside down cakes on to the floor to the worst cake bust of David Bowie the world has ever seen, the first episode of Bake Off had it all: drama, intrigue, pathos, tears, giggles, a truly diverse line-up of contestants and the sort of feelgood fuzziness that 2020 has so utterly lacked.
