EDITOR’S LETTER

- @bengcobb

Have you finished season two of Euphoria yet? If not, WTF are you waiting for? It has to be the single greatest TV experience since Twin Peaks — there, I said it. From the Scorsese-style opening sequence to the surrealist flourishes and that amazing montage of Hollywood pastiches (Brokeback Mountain, anyone?) it is an exercise in pure technical and creative brilliance. Euphoria doesn’t reflect Gen Z culture, it is Gen Z culture… Anyway, let’s just say I’m a fan.

If you have devoured S2 like any selfrespecting human should, then you’ll know there are two tragedies. The first one is unspeakable: to reveal it is a spoiler of unimaginable magnitude and I don’t want to invoke the wrath of Euphoria latecomers everywhere. The second — and arguably most shocking — is how Barbie Ferreira is cruelly sidelined halfway through. Her co-stars all have their beautifully crafted moments to shine outside the shadow of Euphoria’s supernova lead Zendaya. But not Ferreira. We are robbed of her character Kat Hernandez just as she’s getting going. There are a few theories as to why but as you’ll see in Grace Medford’s interview, Ferreira is staying tight-lipped. After all, there is season three to negotiate and we’ll see more of her this summer in Jordan Peele’s next hit horror, Nope.

Until then, there is our wondrous cover shoot. Full transparency: it was a Herculean task.

Four months, two misfires and a load of sprinklers later, thank the Photo Gods it was worth it. The result is a dreamy baby doll fantasy, cooked up between Ferreira and her friend and fairy-tale visionary, Petra Collins.

Yes, I am aware that this letter has turned into a glorified love letter to Barbie Ferreira. What can I say? I’m a fan. Oh, I’ve already said that.

PS: if you’re not a Euphoria fan, your loss.

But just for you there’s also a thrilling piece on Donald Trump’s new Truth Social app (yes, seriously) and a mighty My London with Pete Doherty. You’re welcome.
