Evening Standard - ES Magazine
AFTER DARK
To Mark’s Club in Mayfair to celebrate the first anniversary of Ben Cobb’s editorship of ES — we know, where does the time go?! — with perhaps the most decadent setting for a house party ever. Paco Rabanne joined us to celebrate the launch of new fragrance Fame, while Groove Armada brought a second anniversary to the night with their 25th… and gave us their perfect party playlist which is over the page. We got chatting to London adoptee Eve, who told us her favourite Britishisms: ‘I love Gogglebox, it’s so funny and unapologetically British. And I love travelling by black cab — they’re so iconic.’ It was when DJ Lou Hayter started playing old-school Madonna (as Nicki Minaj says, ‘there’s only one queen’) that the party reeaally popped off — like dancing on the sofas style — and turned into a mass singalong. What’s your go-to karaoke song? we asked the ‘Let Me Blow Ya Mind’ singer. ‘Eurythmics — “Sweet Dreams”,’ she replied. We then tried to get saxophonist CKTRL to play ‘Like a Prayer’ for a karaoke duet. ‘Um, I’ve not tried it before but I’m sure I could…’ he replied, laughing. Not sure he realised we were deadly serious.
